The in-Lion toolbar hides at the top of your screen when in-Lion is running.
You can drag images from the web onto the toolbar, where they'll be displayed as thumbnail images.

Once you have some images on the toolbar, you can drag them into your email compose window, as shown. Choose from three image sizes and the actual size.

Notice that the image link is shown underneath the thumbnails. It can be copied to the clipboard.

Below is an example of the actual-size image being dragged into the email compose window.
Also visible is the link for "Plain Text" mode, which switches back from the "Rich Text" mode you see here.
